Students have found an alternative to Fourier transform, math technique that processes data. The small size of MP3 can be blamed on the FFT, a form of this transform. The new transform, SFT, can be up to 10 to 100 times faster. This could speed up the whole computer but is limited because not all signals are compatible.
The assumptions can be that computers will be faster. It will be implemented in all devices, which might not be true as updating all computers will take a while and old generation computers might not be compatible.
I was surprised that it could make the computers 10 to 100 times faster which is tremendous. Web pages would seem to load instantly.
The only emerging technology from 2009 is Siri. It's used in the iPhone 4S.
